MINUTES OF THE ASHFIELD YOUTH COMMITTEE OF ASHFIELD COUNCIL, HELD ON LEVEL 6, CIVIC CENTRE, 260 LIVERPOOL ROAD, ASHFIELD ON MONDAY 4 MARCH 2013, COMMENCING AT 5:30 PM.

CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES
The minutes of the Youth Committee Meeting held on 18 February 2013 were confirmed.
ACTIONS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES
Clr Lofts reported that he will pursue a request for Council action to follow up on the Expansion of the Skate Park at Summer Hill.
Sophie spoke with Promotions Only regarding printing of t-shirts, however the minimum order is 50 t-shirts. This is beyond the Committee’s requirements.
ACTION: Sophie to source an alternative t-shirt printing company.
All other actions were complete.
ITEMS DEFERRED FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
Camille advised that she is still waiting for advice regarding the name of the Youth Centre and the date of the official opening.
STRUCTURED DISCUSSION – ASHFIELD YOUTH COMMITTEE
Sophie is keen to build relationships with the local Councillors. She will attend International Women’s Day and take the opportunity to meet with the Councillors who attend. Youth Committee members should consider attending a Council meeting to gain a better understanding of the role of Councillors and their interests.
Sophie, Johnny, Pooja and Antoinette will run the Ashfield Youth Committee stall at the Carnival of Cultures on Sunday 17 March at Ashfield Park. The survey questions will be:
1) Do you know about the Ashfield Youth Committee?
2) Do you know we have a Facebook page?
3) Would you like to join the Committee?
4) Do you know there is a Youth Centre in Ashfield?
5) What would attract you to the Centre?
The stall will include information flyers about the Committee, Committee banner, free lollies, balloons, music and a jelly bean guessing competition where people can enter the competition by providing their email address.
ACTION: Sophie to create the survey.
Sophie has investigated local youth artists who are interested in painting a wall in the Ashfield Youth Centre, Griffin and Sha’an.
ACTION: Camille to identify possible budget for mural inside the Youth Centre.
ACTION: Sophie to ask Griffin to give us a price range and some sketches.
The committee discussed furniture requirements for the Youth Centre:
· Additional couches, cushions and bean bags
· Television, Nintendo Wii
· Oven or convection microwave
· Pool table
Ashfield Mall have submitted a proposal to Council to upgrade the Mall Plaza. The plans included a suggestion to rework the entrance to the Youth Centre, such that it included lift access down to the Centre, and a widening of the street-level footpath ontop of the existing ramp area.
ACTION: Clr Lofts to keep the Committee informed on updates regarding Mall development.
The next meeting will be held on Monday 25 March 2013 at Ashfield Youth Centre, 5.30pm-6.30pm.
