2/3    That Council staff develop Motions for presentation to the National General Assembly of Local Government to include issues as appropriately identified in this officers report and further ratified by Council including:-

a)     That Universal Housing Design principles be applied to all new residential housing and public buildings

b)     Funding of equal pay in aged care

c)     Harmonisation rights

 

3/3    That a brief be provided to the Productivity Commission with           respect to Workforce issues in Aged Care facilities, namely           noting the skills mix and staffing ratios

RESOLVED                                  Kelso / Wang

 

1/2    That Council adopt the recommendations for 2010-2011 Annual           Community Grants as outlined in Attachment 1.

 

2/2    That a separate sub-category be established in Council’s           Annual Community Grants budget for the amount of $5,000 for           environmental initiatives and this sub-category be funded from           Council’s Environmental Levy.

  

GENERAL BUSINESS

 

                   TENNANTS UNION

 

Julie Foreman – That Council note that the Tennants Union has developed a four point plan to look at improving the rights of boarders and lodgers including

-          occupancy agreements

-          stronger regulation of boarding houses and incentives for good providers

-          socially inclusive programs with funding allocated

-          more substantial policing of the for-profit housing of people with a disability

 

Councillor Lofts - That Council lobby top assist with the inception of the four point plan with the government of the time after the election.

That this matter be referred to the next Community Services Committee meeting with a further report from officers

 

 

NATIONAL SENIORS

 

Tony Smith – is on the board of the National Seniors of Australia which supports productive ageing. Is also proud to be a member of the Ashfield Seniors Committee

 

 

SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMS

 

Councillor Wangmann – would like to reiterate that wherever possible activities for school holiday program be undertaken in high density areas such as Croydon
