CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES
That the minutes of the Aboriginal Consultative Meeting held on Wednesday 16 March 2011 be accepted.
Jason Wing provided the Committee with two visual proposals for the ‘gateway’ sites being Brown Street Car park entrance and the corner of Liverpool Road and Frederick Street.
That Jason Wing be thanked for his presentation to the Committee on the possibilities of artwork installations at the two gateway sites that would welcome all communities to the Ashfield Council area.
Joanne McLean and Meaghan Devane provided the Committee with information about the Commonwealth Respite & Carelink services that are available.
That Ms McLean & Ms Devane be thanked for their informative presentation to the Committee.
GENERAL UPDATE ON ISSUES RELATING TO ABORIGINAL RECONCILIATION IN ASHFIELD. Gerard Howard – Manager, Community Services – Report Submitted.
1/4 That Council staff provide a paragraph on each name suggested for the community rooms
2/4 That works created in the NAIDOC Week School initiative be displayed in the new Civic Centre
3/4 That Council present submissions to the National General Assembly of Local Government reflecting Item 28 of the Ashfield Reconciliation Action Plan
4/4 That Council Officers write back to the Shires Association of NSW advising that the Ashfield Aboriginal Consultative Committee requests that the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) be provided with a permanent board seat on the Shires Association
That the next meeting be devoted primarily to receiving an update of the implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan.
That Council bus outing for seniors to Aboriginal cultural sites be continued.
That Council receive a presentation from a second artist regarding the ‘gateway’ sites.
The Mayor congratulated staff, including Patricia Blackman on the fantastic International Women’s Day even held on Tuesday 8 March at the Haberfield Centre, Michael Maher Room.
