Councillor Drury declared a non-pecuniary non-significant interest, due to being a member of the Advisory Group to the Pratten Park Bowling Club.

DISCUSSION ITEMS

 

5.1        Reinstatement of Historic Gates

 

Ken Gainger spoke on the subject

 

Action:               That the matter be held over, to be discussed at next meeting

 

 

 

5.2        Rugby league at Pratten Park

 

                            Ken Gainger spoke on the subject

 

Action:               That the matter be held over, to be discussed at next meeting

 

 

5.3        Pratten Park Bowling Club

 

                            Reg Wood made a report to the Committee (Attachment 1)

5.4        Pratten Park Security

 

                            Rob Burke spoke on the subject

 

Action:               That due to increased vandalism at Pratten Park, we ask police to increase surveillance on Thursday and Saturday nights after 10pm and ask Council CEO’s to patrol the area around 4-5pm on weekdays.

 

 

5.5        Restoring surface of “Dunbar Green”

 

                            Steve Joannidis spoke on the subject (Attachment 2)

 

Action:               That the works be incorporated into a priority maintenance plan for Pratten Park

 

That Gordon Latham source an additional 2 quotes for the project

 

That the matter be discussed further at the next meeting

 

 

5.6        Water Harvesting Project

 

                            Steve Joannidis spoke on the subject

 

                            Councillor Drury noted that no-one from WSDCC was in attendance to comment on the subject

 

Action:               That we await receipt of tenders and discuss at next meeting

 

 

5.7        Use of cricket nets at Pratten Park and in the municipality

 

                            Steve Joannidis spoke on the subject

 

Action:               That it be noted WSDCC and Canterbury Soccer will be present when junior cricket associations meet with the PPAC in early June to discuss this issue

 

 

5.8        Repairs to cricket square/pitch

 

                            Steve Joannidis spoke on the subject and distributed copies of a letter received by Ashfield Council from Alan Smith of Canterbury District Soccer Football Association (Attachment 3)

 

Action:               That a copy of the letter be sent to WSDCC

 

 

5.9        Closure of playing arena after inclement weather

 

                            Stephen Joannidis spoke on the subject

 

Action:               That this matter be discussed again once the WSDCC response to the CDSFA letter is received

 

 

5.10    Proposal for constructing steps to/from playground area

 

                            Rob Burke spoke on the subject

 

Action:               That it be indicated to James Philips (Designer) that we need a design/plan within 2 weeks or the design will be taken elsewhere

 

 

5.11    Replacing damaged windows in Grandstand – new security grilles

 

                            Ken Gainger and Rob Burke spoke on the subject

 

Action:               That the Committee note that quotations are being sourced for improved security grilles for grandstand windows

 

 

5.12    Outstanding WSDCC funded projects

 

                            Rob Burke spoke on the following subjects

 

5.13.1                Cricket nets

 

5.13.2                Covered viewing area

 

5.13.3                Kiosk/Scorer’s box renovation

 

5.13.4                Sight screens

 

5.13.5                Scoreboard

 

Action:               That progress with these projects  be noted

 

    

GENERAL BUSINESS

 

 

IMPROPER USE OF PRATTEN PARK

 

Joe noted the informal use of Pratten Park by organised groups in full soccer kit/uniform, who tear up the park on weekends. 

 

Steve Joannidis stated that CEO’s can ask people to move on if they are in “uniform” and do not have a park booking.

 

Action:               That the matter be referred to the CEO’s for surveillance

 

 

Proposed works for Thirning Villa and surrounding grounds

 

Anthia Hart noted the following works required for Thirning Villa and the surrounding grounds:

 

·               Installation of tracks and spot lighting in the studio and hallway of the Villa.

·               Installation of an outdoor light in the courtyard.

·               Upgrade of the sensor lights at the entrance and backyard of the Villa.

·               Landscaping of the courtyard and backyard area of the Villa.  We are endeavouring to have this work done with the Disability Employment initiative.

·               Installation of the two sculptures that have been gifted to Council, and the timber poles created by the Men’s Shed.  This work will commence following the DA process.

·               Replant along the tennis court fence with native plants. 

 

Ken Gainger noted that Council were unsuccessful in their funding application for the sculpture garden.

 

Anthia Hart advised that the sculpture garden will be funded within the existing budget and the project completed in small stages.

 

Councillor Lofts raised that Thirning Villa requires repair/ a new coat of paint

 

Ken Gainger questioned available heritage funding to restore Thirning Villa. Ken suggested investigating this with Nick de Brett, who has been involved with previous grant applications.

 

Action:               That we investigate funding options for the repair/maintenance of Thirning Villa, with enquiries directed to Nick de Brett (Council officer) and Helen Wilson (Heritage Advisor)

 

That Thirning Villa be a standing item on the agenda for Pratten Park Advisory Committee

 

 

June exhibition program

 

Anthia Hart noted 12 Artists @ Ashfield members will be holding an exhibition in the second week of June.

During the last week of June there will be an exhibition of artworks from the Croydon Living Skills.

 

 

Artist in Residence

 

Anthia Hart noted that Gillian Hand has been running a series of workshops that have been attended by around 100 individuals.  Her residency will be completed on Sunday 31 May.

 

The next artist will arrive on Monday 6 July from Launceston.  Suzanne Crowley is a visual artist, painter and ceramics artist.  She will leave on 19 December. 

 

Expressions of Interest for the residency will be called for at the beginning of July for the year 2010. 

 

 

Youth Week Art Exhibition

 

Anthia Hart noted an Art Exhibition at Thirning Villa during Youth Week (28 March – 5 April) featured 49 artworks created by 37 local young artists.

 

 

MAINTENANCE OF LINES IN CAR PARK

 

Reg Woods raised the issue that the lines need to be repainted in the car park  between the Bowling and Tennis Clubs

 

Action:               That the lines in the car park be painted
